What should I look for in a work environment?

The simple answer is trust, passion, courage and brains.

  • In a trusting environment, stakeholders can rely on their designers’ gut instincts.
  • Where there is passion, the will to make meaningful progress will flourish.
  • Courage enables designers to take risk and bring cutting-edge designs to market.
  • Brains - not genius, but real-world, common-sense brains - bring it all together.

All four of these qualities must exist simultaneously to make a good environment. Take one away, and the environment will eventually become dysfunctional.

Personal Branding

Discover your brand

Your self-impression = How people perceive you

It is

what people expect of you.
it’s created by everything you do and how you do it.
your values, beliefs, choices, actions, images, etc.
it provides the reason why someone will like you, love you, choose you and hire you .

Whether or not you put effort into developing and managing your brand, you will have one.

This is not to be interpreted as being artificial and creating an image that is not real to you, it is about taking the opportunity to be cognizant of your choices and emphasize the attributes that you want others to associate with you. It’s about “becoming more of who you are.”

The process of personal branding is about taking control of your identity and harnessing its power to facilitate achieving your goals.

personal branding involves identifying your meaningful difference,
or what makes you exceptional and unique,
and consistently communicating such attributes in all areas of your life.

your brand becomes a guide for your life and the choices you make.

By doing so, you will distinguish yourself, be memorable, establish a reputation, gain credibility and, ultimately, achieve your goals.

“The problem with object-oriented languages is they’ve got all this implicit environment that they carry around with them. You wanted a banana but what you got was a gorilla holding the banana and the entire jungle.”—Joe Armstrong” —http://www.codersatwork.com/
