Biometrics: Automatically recognizing a person using distinguishing traits
The word 'Biometrics' simply means measurement of a living trait, whether physiological or behavioral. Biometric technologies compare a person's unique characteristics against a previously enrolled image. It is similar to the way our brains identify one another but works on a lesser scale.

Biometrics dates back to the ancient Egyptians; they were the first to measure people to identify them. Biometric technologies measure human characteristics such as fingerprints, voice recordings, irises, heat patterns, keystroke rhythms and facial images, among others. Any of these biometrics is sufficient to positively identify an authorized person from hundreds or millions of others. These tests can also be used in combination, for example, linking a face scan with a signature scan.
