twitter

What is Twitter?

Twitter helps people communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent, 140 character messages. Choose whose messages you want to receive and how you want to receive them, or search all Twitter updates to see what people are talking about.

What is following?

Following someone on Twitter means getting their updates in your personal timeline.  If you follow Tina, you'll get her updates on your homepage when you log in, or on your phone if you've added it.  See who gets your updates on your followers (http://twitter.com/followers) page, and make changes to who you follow on your following (http://twitter.com/following) page.

Do you follow me? (What are followers?)

Followers are people who receive other peoples' Twitter updates. (Wait, isn't that everyone? Most of the time, yes.)  When you post an update to your Twitter account, your followers will get it on their home page and/or phone. You don't have to follow everyone who follows you, and unless an account is private, you can follow and un-follow who ever you want without them following back.  Mutual followers can send each other private messages, and you can even choose to get notified by email when someone new follows you or sends you a private message.  Your follower/following stats are listed on your profile page.

Twitter is a lifestream and just as you'll miss stuff in life, you need to accept you'll miss stuff on Twitter.Twitter is not a single topic medium. If you follow someone you follow the whole person.

This statement might seem obvious, but it's not obvious to everyone. Barak Obama and I don't agree on politics. That doesn't mean I'm going to unfollow him. I'm also not following him because I think I'll miss some deep insight on American Politics. I follow him because I like him. He is a full and complete person and he's interesting. When he stops being interesting, well...let's just hope for his sake, he stays interesting. ;)

I use a few tricks with Twitter to stay on to of things without them becoming stressful. That's the key. If Twitter stops being fun, consider Quitting Twitter rather than following everyone.

Twitter Rule 1 - Follow Liberally (Let’s have different opinions mixed together)
Twitter Rule 2 - Use Search Effectively (search anything and of anyone on Twitter)
Twitter Rule 3 - Make Groups (in Twitter Clients - TweetDeck, bDule etc)
Twitter Rule 4 - Favorites as "Read Later" (Allow me some space privately)

Conclusion
So, if you want to follow the Whole Person, that’s me, follow me @bhu1st. Let’s Tweet together. :)
