Once, i went to my fren's. I turned on his box and tried to use mouse, but my fren was giglling at me, the mice died a week ago and he stopped working on his computer.. he bet me to use his computer without mouse. How wudn't i? i have all these HOT KEYS in my head! My fren was shocked... not for paying the bet but his computer worked even faster than before!

Mouse may ba handy, but the fun with keyboard is mystical. When speed counts, the keyboard is the king! Almost anything you do with CLICKs you can perform faster using KeyBoard ShortCut Keys.

You can avoid several mouse clicks if you know these SHORTCUT keys and SHORTCUT ideas.
Mouse user may sometime experience misplacing of curser or clicks, but KEYBOARD king never faces such problem. Damn! You'll feel faster. Give a time to learn these SHORT Secrets.

I don't say to avoid using mouse, but KEYBOARD magic combined with CLICK CLICKs adds Professional Look to someone looking you doing your work!

When u open a new application or prgram, eg. Ms-Word, try exploring and memorising all the shortcut keys given to the right of each menu item. You'll thank yourself for that.

Let's Taste?
Press Windows key (Win) - opens the Start Menu.
Press cursor keys - moves up nd down of menu items.
Press Enter - opens the highlighted item.
Press Alt and F4(at once)- closes the opened window or application.

Wanna RUN, run baby run:
Press Win + R - opens the RUN dialog.
Type "mspaint" in the textbox
Press Enter - opens Ms-Paint, play there, something u like, that's how you RUN.
Press Ctrl+S - and give a filename and save your FIRST RUN
Press Alt & F4 - Closes Ms-Paint .

In this article i'll summarize keyboard shortcuts that u would like to know. In my next post i'll write some handy tricks that will amplify your working speed by reducing the no. of clicks u perform.

[WINDOWS KEY AND APPLICATION KEY(near right Ctrl key) SHORCUTS]

Win Key - Show/Hide Start menu.
- (CTRL+ESC Does the same action. try it)

Win +E - Open My Computer, Explorer (tree view)

Win +R - Open the Run dialog box. (Don't do CLICKs, try RUNning, it's faster...)
The RUN key can Run anything and manything... have a habit of pressing Win+R

Win +D - Show the desktop.
Win +M - Minimize all windows.
Win +Shift+M Restores minimized windows.
Win +F - Search for a file or folder.
Win +L - Switch betwn users no log off

Win +BREAK - Display the System Properties dialog box.
CTRL+Win+F - Search for computers on network
Win+F1 or F1 For xp help.
Win+U - Utility Manager.

WIN +PRINT SCREEN Captures screes, with mouse cursor
WIN +SCROLL LOCK Captures screen, without mouse cursor
FUN PART:
(Open My Computer. Now press WIN+PRINT SCREEN. After Pressing this VERY HOT KEY, open Ms-Paint and press CTRL-V, u'll be shocked if u haven't tried it before. your whole screen will be captured as an image, u can now play with it. Try setting this CAPTURED SCREEN as desktop walpaper, u'll be confused! Don't minimize, its WALLPAPER Dude!)

Application Key(App. Key) Display the shortcut menu for the selected ite (as Right Clicking).


[COMMON SHORTCUTS: LOOK ON THE RIGHT OF EACH MENU ITEMS]

Open My computer, any drive letter, and a folder containing multiple files. Perfom this shortcuts and see how u notice the KEYOARD ACTION.

GENERAL COPY PASTE:
CTRL+C - Copy
CTRL+drag the Mouse - Copy selected item.
CTRL+V - Paste
CTRL+X - Cut

CTRL+Z - Undo
CTRL+SHIFT when dragging Creates shortcut of the item.

CURSOR MOVEMENTS:
CTRL+RIGHT ARROW - Move cursor to next word (FORWARD)
CTRL+LEFT ARROW - Move cursor to previous word (BACKWARD)
CTRL+DOWN ARROW - Move cursor to next paragraph.
CTRL+UP ARROW - Move cursor to previous paragraph.

SELECTION-FILE/FOLDER OR TEXT:
CTRL+SHIFT+ARROW KEYs - Highlights text block
SHIFT+ARROW KEYx - Select multiple file/folder, or selects text.
CTRL+A - Select all.

CTRL+F4 - Close active document in program, not the program
ALT+ENTER - View properties (Right Click -> Properties)
ALT+TAB - Switch between open programs, listed in taskbar
ALT+ESC - Cycle through windows or programs in order uou opened them
ALT+SPACEBAR - Shows System menu
ALT+F4 - Close current window, or quits current application

SHIFT when you insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive, Prevents CD Autoplay
SHIFT+F10 - The shortcut menu (as right clicking)
SHIFT+DELETE - Deletes an item without sendind to waste bin, "Recycle Bin" (Permanent)
DELETE - Deletes and Sends file to Recycle Bin (Temporary Delet)

F2 - Rename selected file/folder(Right Click->Rename)
F3 - Search for file or folder
F5 - Refresh window or desktop (Right Click on desktop -> Refresh same)
F4 - Shows address bar listtings
F6 - Cycles screen elements in window

F10 - Activates menu
ALT+Underlined letter in a menu name opens that menu.

(Note: Normally no letters are underlined but when u press the ALT key, u can see the underlined words. If u didn't presses any letter or any other key combination - the default FILE menu is selected.
Try it. In this BROWSER WINDOW. Underlined letter in the menu items on an open menu Carry out the corresponding command, try pressing them. Try moving through menus with ARROW KEYS. LEFT, RIGHT ARROW KEYS open next menu, while UP, DOWN ARROW KEYS open a menu.)


BACKSPACE - Moves to previous folder, Like Clicking on Back Button
ESC - Cancel the current task.

[WINDOWS EXPLORER :NORMAL VIEW SHORTCUTS]

ALT+SPACEBAR - Display the System menu.
SHIFT+F10 - Same as Right Click.
ALT+TAB - Switch between the Current and other open windows.
CTRL+TAB - Switch to the next pane (Smarter then tab.. use it).
CTRL+SHIFT+TAB - Switch to the previous pane.
UP ARROW - Move up one item.
DOWN ARROW - Move down one item.
PAGE UP - Move up one page.
PAGE DOWN - Move down one page.
F6 - Switch focus between the different panes in the window.
CTRL+HOME - Selects the first folderor move to the first item.
CTRL+END - Selects the last folder or move to the end.
CTRL+A - Select all files, text, anything in the body.
CTRL+P - Print dialog.
ALT+LEFT - ARROW Move back to the previou folder.
ALT+RIGHT - ARROW Move forward to the next (previously viewed) folder.
ALT+F4 - Close the window.

[WINDOWS EXPLORER : TREE VIEW SHORTCUTS]

Open Explorer pressing 'Win+E' and try pressing these keys. *, +, - from Number keypad.
END - Shows bottom of the window
HOME - Shows top of the window
LEFT ARROW - Collapse current selection
RIGHT ARROW - Opens current selection
ASTERISK (*) - Shows all subfolders
PLUS (+) - Show the contents of the folder
MINUS (-) - Collapse folder

(Note: Pressing * key shows up all subfolders, if a folder have many subfolders it may HANG UP ur computer. Try.)

[DIALOG BOX SHORTCUTS]

TAB - Move forward through options
SHIFT+TAB - Move backward through options
ALT+Underline letter Performs corresponding option/Selects option
SPACEBAR - Select/Clear check box
BACKSPACE - Opens folder one level up (in Save As or Open dialog box)
ENTER - Accept Button. (Ok!)

CTRL+TAB - Move forward through tab index
CTRL+SHIFT+TAB - Move backward through tab index
F1 - Display Help
F4 - Display the items in the active list
(Use arrow keys to select a button in a group of option)
